BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team wrapped up their pre-season schedule when they participated in the Wayne Allison Fall Showdown tournament hosted by Sheridan College this weekend in Brampton, Ont.

The Grizzlies opened the tournament with a tight contest against the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles. It came down the final minutes but the Eagles prevailed defeating the Grizzlies 80-70.

Later on Friday Georgian played their second match of the tournament against the Sault Cougars. It was another tight contest, but this time the Grizzlies got the edge winning 78-77.

In their final match of the tournament on Saturday, the Grizzlies faced last year's defending OCAA champions in the host Sheridan Bruins. It was tough opposition for the Grizzlies as they fell to the Bruins 123-62 to end their tournament.

Georgian's two loses at the tournament came to the two teams who eventually met in the finals.

The men's basketball team will open their 2017-18 OCAA regular season on Friday, Oct. 20 when they host the Algonquin Thunder at the Georgian Athletic Centre. They will then play again on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they host the La Cite Coyotes at 1 p.m. Both games are open to the public with tickets are available at the door for $5.
