The Algonquin Thunder men’s soccer team
earned the silver medal at the 2005 National Men’s
Soccer Championships this past weekend at Langara College
in Vancouver.
The Thunder lost 2-0 in the gold medal final to Douglas College
(BCCAA). On the road to the CCAA final, Algonquin won their two
round robin games defeating host Langara College 2-1 (BCCAA), and
then blanked Champlain St. Lambert (FQSE) 4-0 advancing the Thunder
to the gold medal game.
The CCAA silver medal was the sixth trip to the national podium
for the Algonquin Thunder men’s soccer team. Along with their
national championship season in 2002-03, they also claimed silver
last year in 2003-2004.
For their hard work and excellent play three Algonquin players
were recognized to the CCAA All-Star team. Forward Stefano Flamini,
defender Mike Gagliano and mid-fielder Vedran Fustar of Algonquin
were named to the all-star squad.
