The number two-seeded Algonquin College Thunder began their
quest to the championship title with a 4-0 win over host team,
Langara College. The Thunder went on to win their second game 7-1
over the MacEwan College Griffins.
Algonquin battled it out against Champlain Regional College St.
Lambert in the gold medal round. The Cavaliers pushed the Thunder
as best as they could, but could not keep up with Algonquin’s
strength and had to settle for second place with a score of 4-0.
Scoring the goals for the Thunder in the final were Loui Legakis
netting two and Corey O'Connell and Will Beauge adding one apiece.
While Tristan Roscoe recorded the shutout for the Thunder.
The Thunder earned their spot at Nationals after winning the OCAA
Championship title for the third year in a row and finishing the
regular season off with a 8-0-1 record. Last year the Thunder just
missed out on the title losing 2-0 in the Gold Medal match to
Douglas College at Nationals to win the silver medal. This is the
Thunders second CCAA Men’s Soccer Gold Medal, Algonquin also
won the title in 2002-2003.
Following the championships several Thunder players were named to
the Championship All-Star Team including Mike Gagliano, Loui
Legakis, Will Beauge and Perry Legakis. Meanwhile Tristan Roscoe
was named the Championships top Goal Keeper and Loui Legakis was
honoured as the Most Valuable Player.
Following a tough battle against Capilano College, MacEwan College
prevailed to finish in third place with a score of 4-2. Host team
Langara Falcons finished 5th overall.
