TORONTO - Top-ranked men's soccer teams in the Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) squared off against each other this
past week, making an impact on this edition of the provincial
rankings.
1. Humber Hawks (Last Week - 1)
(Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Rank - 3)
The Humber Hawks (6-0-1) and No. 3 Sheridan battled to a scoreless
draw on Wednesday in a rematch of last year's OCAA gold medal
game.
The tie prevented either team from clinching first place in the
OCAA West region, however, both will finish no worse than second
place in the standings. Both teams will host quarter-finals this
weekend.
Humber's regular season finale goes Wednesday at Niagara.
2. Algonquin Thunder (Last Week - 2)
(CCAA Rank - 12)
The Algonquin Thunder (6-0-0) clinched a home quarter-final game
with a 4-0 win at No. 5 Seneca on Saturday.
Jordan Mitchell-Reyes, Trevor
Turner, Anthony Kalule and
Alexander Campbell all scored for Algonquin in the
victory.
Algonquin hosts No. 4 La Cite in a match that could determine
first place in the OCAA East region on Wednesday.
3. Sheridan Bruins (Last Week - 3)
(CCAA Rank - 5)
The Sheridan Bruins (6-0-1) looked poised to make some noise in
the upcoming OCAA quarter-finals after a strong performance against
No. 1 Humber.
Sheridan hosts Mohawk in its regular season finale on Tuesday.
Regardless of the outcome, Sheridan will host an OCAA quarter-final
game this weekend.
4. La Cite Coyotes (Last Week - 5)
La Cite Coyotes (4-0-1) remains one of four OCAA teams without a
loss, defeating Durham 3-1 on Saturday before tying No. 5 Seneca
3-3 on Sunday. Both games were played on the road.
Jose Bruno Mota netted a hat trick against
Durham, and added one for good measure against Seneca.
La Cite plays a make-up game at Fleming-Peterborough on Tuesday
before the regular season finale at No. 2 Algonquin on Wednesday.
Having already secured a playoff berth, La Cite would clinch first
place in the OCAA East region by winning both matches.
5. Seneca Sting (Last Week - 4)
(CCAA Rank - 14)
The Seneca Sting (4-1-1) lost to No. 2 Algonquin and tied No. 4 La
Cite at home this week. As a result, Seneca drops one spot in the
rankings.
Kailen Murphy scored two goals in the tie against
La Cite.
Seneca has already clinched a playoff berth, and will host
Fleming-Peterborough on Wednesday in its regular season finale. The
Sting are still in the running for second place in the OCAA East
region.
