OCAA IN THE KNOW: MEN'S SOCCER

SAINTLY MIDFIELDER

The St. Clair Saints currently reside on the top of the OCAA west standings thanks in large part to first-year midfielder Stefan Milidrag (Windsor, Ont.).

Milidrag leads the OCAA with five goals through his first three matches. In the season opener against Conestoga, Milidrag scored one in a 3-2 victory. He had a two-goal effort against Mohawk in a 3-3 tie, and added two more in a 3-1 win over Fanshawe.

St. Clair has a 2-0-1 record, with Milidrag scoring in each match. Take away Milidrag's production, and St. Clair would be 0-1-2. This is a difference of five points in the standings.

St. Clair is currently one point ahead of four teams in the west standings.

THE DEFENCE DOESN'T REST

The Algonquin Thunder have scored 10 times without allowing a goal, leading to a 3-0-0 record in the east. Algonquin is the only remaining OCAA team not to allow a goal this season.

Algonquin has also extended its regular season unbeaten streak to 26 matches with home victories over Fleming and Durham. Algonquin has not lost since its 2010 regular season finale.

The Thunder have four matches remaining, three on the road.

DOUBLE BLUE DOUBLE DIGITS

Besides Algonquin, the Sheridan Bruins are the only other OCAA team to reach double digits goals so far this season. Sheridan has outscored its opponents 14-1 in just two matches.

First-year player Raheem Edwards (Toronto) leads the Bruins with four goals, including a hat trick in a season-opening win against Mohawk. Fifth-year veteran David Velastegui (Quito, Ecuador) has contributed three goals.

Sheridan plays host to the CCAA nationals from Nov. 5-8.

NOT A TYPO

St. Clair's 2-0-1 record not withstanding, three teams sport 2-0-0 records in the OCAA west, including Humber, Sheridan...and Lambton?

That's correct. The Lambton Lions are officially the upstarts of 2014 after 2-1 victories over Conestoga and Mohawk. Consider that Lambton had a 1-7-0 record in 2013, as the Lions were outscored 2-23.

While two matches don't make a season, it is just the start that can catapult the Lions to a playoff position for the first time this century.

GOLDEN BOOTS

With three goals, including one in the dying minutes, fourth-year midfielder Josh Elgeti (Peterborough, Ont.) scored three goals to lift Redeemer to a 3-2 win over Fanshawe.

Noah Bernard (Windsor, Ont.) scored in the 85th minute to lift Lambton to a 2-1 win over Conestoga. Teammate Richeal O'Neill (Windsor, Ont.) then broke a one-goal deadlock in the late stages of a 2-1 win over Mohawk.

First-year forward Sasa Vukoje (Etobicoke, Ont.) scored two goals to lead his Durham Lords to a 2-1 win over Seneca.

Guedei Korei Djimi (Scarborough, Ont.) scored two times in Centennial's 2-2 tie against St. Lawrence-Kingston.
