OCAA IN THE KNOW: MEN'S SOCCER

TOLD YA SO

Humber improved to 6-1-3 over Sheridan in the past 10 meetings between the clubs, including regular and post-season play.

While some may look at this record and presume Humber dominance, a closer look at the numbers suggests otherwise. Each of these outcomes have been decided by one goal (or penalty kicks) or ended in a stalemate.

Sept. 22, 2015 - Humber 1, Sheridan 0 (regular season)
Sept. 24, 2014 - Sheridan 1, Humber 1 (regular season)
Oct. 25, 2013 - Humber 1, Sheridan 0* (OCAA semi-final)
Sept. 21, 2013 - Humber 0, Sheridan 0 (regular season)
Oct. 26, 2012 - Humber 1, Sheridan 0 (OCAA semi-final)
Oct. 3, 2012 - Sheridan 1, Humber 0 (regular season)
Oct. 29, 2011 - Humber 1, Sheridan 0 (OCAA gold medal match)
Oct. 12, 2011 - Humber 0, Sheridan 0 (regular season)
Oct. 30, 2010 - Humber 2, Sheridan 1 (OCAA gold medal match)
Oct. 13, 2010 - Humber 2, Sheridan 1 (regular season)
*settled by penalty kicks

In other seasons, Sheridan may have to concede first place in the division to Humber as a result of this match. But under the new 2015 format, these teams meet again at Sheridan on Oct. 17. Plan on another match decided by one goal or less.

AIR JORDAN

Fifth-year forward Jordan Lidia (Leamington) was a one-man wrecking crew in St. Clair's 4-0 victory at Redeemer.

Lidia scored all four goals in the match, and now has seven for the season, the most in OCAA. The former OCAA all-star has accounted for 78 per cent of St. Clair's offensive output to date.

After a bumpy start the Saints are now 2-1-1 as they look to keep pace with Fanshawe atop the OCAA west standings.

AN OCAA FIRST

The University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles are making their debut this season in OCAA men's soccer, and now they have their first-ever victory.

UTM defeated Seneca 3-1 on the road in a mid-week match. First-year players Kojo Frimpong (Brampton), Gio McDonald (Shelburne) and Nolan Anderson (Mississauga) all scored for the Eagles.

The Eagles improved to 1-1-1 before losing to Humber 3-1 on Sunday. UTM has an important showdown with Sheridan (2-2) on Tuesday.

FALCON EGG

Speaking of the Falcons, Fanshawe is the last OCAA team to surrender a goal this season.

After a scoreless draw against Conestoga, Fanshawe has won three straight, outscoring its opponents 11-0. The Falcons are currently perched atop the OCAA west standings.

Fourth-year player Brent Anderson (London) is a key veteran in what is a very youthful back end for the Falcons, with four first-year defenders on the roster.

THUNDER IN A BOTTLE

Humber remains the only OCAA team to win all of its regular season matches thus far.

Defending OCAA champion Algonquin was chasing a perfect regular season, but the Centennial Colts had other ideas. The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw, perhaps an unexpected but much needed point in the standings for Centennial which improved to 1-2-1. The two goals were the first Algonquin has given up this season.

The Thunder, however, still has its regular season points streak intact. Algonquin has not lost a regular season match since 2010.
