HUMBER WINS OCAA MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

HUMBER WINS OCAA MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

ETOBICOKE, Ont. - The Humber Hawks were less than gracious hosts on Saturday in the 2015 belairdirect OCAA Men's Soccer Championship gold medal game, as they defeated the Algonquin Thunder by a score of 3-0 on the pitch at Centennial Park in Etobicoke, Ont.

In avenging their 2014 final loss to the Thunder, the Hawks have secure their fifth OCAA title in the last six years. Both Humber and Algonquin will advance to the 2015 national tournament in Montreal in two weeks time. Humber has won two of the last three national crowns, while Ontario is currently on a three-year win streak.

The Hawks came out flying like they have all season long, this time with defender Kingsley Bosiako (Brampton) potting the first one of the game at the 11-minute mark.

Just eight minutes later it was Joshua Parades-Proctor (Toronto) who got on the scoresheet, putting the Hawks up 2-0.

Parades-Proctor was at it again, showing his OCAA all-star form, by scoring a goal via the penalty kick to extend the Hawks lead to 3-0 at the 69-minute mark.

From there on in is was a simple game of ball control until the final whistle.

Hawk veteran goalkeeper Eugenio Garro, a former CCAA championship MVP, recorded his second consecutive shutout. He did not play in the opening game, a 3-2 win for Humber over Fleming.

The player of the game for the winning Hawks was Parades-Proctor while Stephane Emard got the nod for Algonquin.

Jainiel Hoilett of the Humber squad was selected as championship MVP. Championship all-star nods went to Patrick Majcher of Humber and to Alex Asmis of Algonquin.

The OCAA bronze medal match was contested on a cool but sunny afternoon on the Centennial Park Stadium pitch on Saturday, with the Fanshawe Falcons winning by way of a 4-0 score over the Cambrian Golden Shield.

Both teams came out cautiously over the first 20 minutes of the game. After playing two high tempo and very physical games over the first two days, the two teams would be looking for ball control first and pushing forward second.

It was not until the 40th minute of the first half that the goose egg was broken, as Cedric N'Guessen (North Bergen, N.J.) buried one. The score remained at 1-0 at the half.

The Falcons took over in the second, scoring three more times. Yasmin Halkic (London) scored twice in the 80th and 88th minutes, and Mensud Zulum (London) scored in extra time.
