HUMBER EDGES ALGONQUIN IN MEN'S SOCCER NATIONAL SEMI-FINAL

Humber Hawks 1, Algonquin Thunder 0

Gusting winds and heavy rain played a huge role in the rematch between the OCAA gold medal finalists at the CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship.

After a scoreless and intense first half, Algonquin was forced to play a man down early in the second due to a red card. Moments later, Jesse Assing pounced on a loose ball in a scramble to score the eventual game-winning goal for Humber.

Going against the wind the rest of the way, the Thunder couldn't answer. Stephane Emard, the 2014 CCAA player of the year, was the player of the game for Algonquin, while Joshua Paredes-Procter received the honour for the Hawks.

With the victory, Humber advances to the CCAA gold medal match against the Capilano Blues on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Hawks have won two of the last three CCAA national titles.

Algonquin is relegated to the bronze medal semifinal against the Keyano Huskies on Friday at 10 a.m.
