REDEEMER 2, ST. CLAIR 1

ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity soccer teams opened up their OCAA regular season on the road on Saturday in Ancaster as they faced the Redeemer University Royals.

The women got off to a solid start defeating the Royals 3-1. St. Clair opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a goal by Tiffany Trembley. Cassie Nicholas put the Saints up 3-0 with two quick goals in the 63rd and 67th minutes. Redeemer got on the board in the 80th minute to make it 3-1. Total shot attempts for the match were 26-7 for the Saints. St. Clair had 16 shots on goal compared to five for Redeemer.

The St. Clair women play their home opener on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when they host the Lambton Lions at the Main Campus Field.

The men played a good match but struggled to put the ball in the goal and ended up losing 2-1 to Redeemer. After St. Clair dominated play for most of the first half the Royals opened the scoring in the 40th minute off a free kick.

Redeemer went up 2-0 in the 60th minute. St. Clair finally got on the score sheet in the 88th minute on a tally by Yale Chadsey. In the first half the Saints had 15 shot attempts compared to five for Redeemer while in the second half, St. Clair had 12 shot attempts compared to five for the Royals. Shots on goal for the match were 8-5 for the Saints.

The St. Clair men open their home schedule on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. when they host the Lambton Lions at the Main Campus Field.
