MOHAWK 5, CONESTOGA 0

KITCHENER, Ont. - Damian Heaney (Orchard Park) scored twice to lead the Mohawk men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over the Conestoga Condors in Kitchener on Wednesday.

The Mountaineers were already up 2-0 on penalties by Ephraim Cirillo (Cardinal Newman) in the second minute and Justin Dargue (Brebeuf) in the 12th minute, before Heaney notched his brace in the 13th and 80th minutes. Heaney's second goal came from the penalty spot. Mohawk had four penalties in the game, scoring on three of them.

Andrew Hodgkinson (Jordan Heritage Christian) rounded out the scoring in stoppage time before the final whistle.

Adam Riecicky (Burlington Assumption) kept the clean sheet.

Mohawk head coach Richard Bennett described the effort as fantastic. "We were strong moving the ball, with good passing. It's a good start. We just need to keep this up," said Bennett.

After an opening game with Lambton being abandoned due to the weather Sept. 10, this was the first result of the OCAA season for the Mountaineers. The Condors fell to 0-2.
