ANCASTER, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers have had a tough go of it this season, but they looked poised to grab a third win until two minutes remaining with the Niagara Knights, in a 1-1 draw.
The Mountaineers grabbed a 1-0 lead 35 minutes into their contest at Redeemer Sports Complex. They got a great bounce on the ball and had three players charge the net. And Adam Vilella (Hamilton/Cardinal Newman) got there first and tucked it under the Niagara goalkeeper.
Mohawk's attempt at clearing the ball with a header in the 88th minute, ended up as an own goal and leaving the Mountaineers with only a single point.
Niagara had the edge in shots and corner kicks, but Mohawk will still see this result as one that got away.
Their record is now 2-5-1.
