Seneca College (North York) played host on the weekend to the
13th Annual OCAA All-Star Game. In total, 20
member Colleges were represented and 48 of the top collegiate
volleyball players in the province participated. In the end, it was
the East who dominated the competition winning both the men’s
and women’s divisions.
On the men’s side, the east pulled out a 2-1 (25-22, 23-25,
25-18) victory over the west. Brett Dailey of Seneca was selected
from the winning side as east Player of the Game, while James Smyth
of St.Clair (Windsor) was Player of the Game for the west team. The
fans were treated to an exciting match, which included top
performances from Brett Dailey (8 kills, 4 blocks), James Smyth (3
kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace), Dave Berghout of Redeemer (5 kills, 1
block) and James Kershaw of Cambrian (4 kills).
In a close women’s match, the east edged out the west 2-1
(26-24, 25-21, 27-29). Becky Rodin of Trent University
(Peterborough) was named the east Player of the Game for the second
year in a row while Heidi Bench of Niagara (Welland) was awarded
the west Player of the Game. Top performers in this tightly
contested match included Heidi Bench (10 kills, 2 aces), Amanda
Arlette of Humber (8 kills, 2 aces), Alison Lammers of Redeemer (4
kills, 4 blocks) and Kim Ward-Paige of Georgian (7 kills, 1
block).
