The Mohawk Mountaineers counldn't continue their 16-match
winning streak on the national court as they finished in fifth
place at the CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championships
that took place last week in Quebec City as Cégep Limoilou
hosted the event.
The Mountaineers entered the Championship as the fourth seeded team
and finished with an overall 1-2 record at the tournament. In the
first round the Mountaineers fell to Sherbrook 3-1 (25-19, 25-16,
16-25, 25-16). After the first round defeat Mohawk regrouped and
handed St.Thomas University a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) defeat. In
the third and final match the Mountaineers couldn’t manage
the win in a close 3-1 loss to Mount Royal who eventually went on
to win the bronze medal. Set scores were 25-11, 25-23, 26-28 and
25-17.
The 2005-06 season was one the most successful years for the
men’s volleyball program at Mohawk College. The Mountaineers
finished the regular season in first place in the OCAA Central West
with a record of 13-0. The Mountaineers dominated the OCAA
Championships going 3-0 and finishing the year with a perfect 16-0
record and capturing the OCAA Men’s Volleyball Title.
