The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is pleased to
announce the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball League
awards, announced Thursday evening at the OCAA Final Four
Championship Banquet, presented by Belair Direct Insurance.
Fourth year, rightside hitter, Steve Pawelczyk of the Mohawk
Mountaineers was named the Men’s OCAA Player of the Year. In
his previous three seasons at the middle position for the
Mountaineers, Pawelczyk had been overshadowed by the talent on
those teams including former All-Canadians Peter Sniuolis and
Jasmin Cull. When third year rightside player Kevin Watson
graduated, Steve was approached and accepted the challenge of
moving positions for the 2008-2009 season and seamlessly stepped
into the position. Pawelczyk led the league in scoring and
currently sits second all-time in career aces.
Landis Doyle of the Humber Hawks has been one of the top players in
the country since her arrival at Humber College three seasons ago.
Her skills are second to none at her middle position finishing
second in total points , averaging 4.22 PPG in the West Region. She
was also recognized earlier this season as the Canadian Colleges
Athletic Association (CCAA) as the Athlete of the Month. Doyle
co-holds the OCAA serving aces in a match record with 13. This is
also Doyle’s first All-Canadian nomination.
