CORNELIUS EARNS OCAA SCORING TITLE

OSHAWA, Ont. - With the men’s volleyball regular season is the books and all the stats have been tallied, P.J. Cornelius of the Durham College men’s volleyball team has earned the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) overall scoring title.

The London, Ont., native averaged 4.77 points per game with 296 points this season, leading the province in both categories. He finished second in the league in kills (257), third in aces (35) while playing just 62 sets.

He led his team to a 16–2 conference record to capture the Lords first East Region title since 2005/06. Durham had a set win/loss record of 51-13, the best of any team in the province.

Sporting a 24-9 overall record, the Lords set a Durham College all-time high for victories in a season. The previous record of 23 was set back in 1999/00 and 2005/06.

The last Durham College student-athlete who won the OCAA overall scoring title was Adam Schiedel back in 2004/05. Schiedel averaged 4.8 points per game that season and was named a CCAA All-Canadian.

The Lords also learned on Saturday that their first round opponent at the OCAA Championship will be the Mohawk Mountaineers out of Hamilton. Mohawk defeated Boreal 3-2 on Saturday in the OCAA qualifying round to advance to the provincial championship, which is set to take place at Seneca College from February 24-26, 2011.
