OSHAWA, Ont. - The records continue to fall in Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) men's volleyball.
La Cite second-year power Keith Marier (Ottawa)
broke the OCAA single season record for offensive points and kills
in a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21) loss at Durham on
Saturday.
Marier earned 20 kills and added a stuff block for 21 points
against Durham to lift his regular season totals to 277 kills and
305 points, surpassing a pair of records established by two former
Seneca products. Kanitha Boranprasit set the
previous OCAA single season record of 304 points in 2000-01, while
Jason Hernandez set the OCAA single season
standard of 257 kills in 2010-11. OCAA historical stats begin in
1999-2000 season to reflect 1999 volleyball rule changes.
Marier added to his totals in a 3-1 (25-23, 35-37, 25-22, 27-25)
loss at Loyalist on Sunday. Marier's 25 kills and 27 points now
gives him 289 kills and 332 points in 2011-12 regular season play
with four matches remaining.
A pair of Loyalist Lancers set all-time OCAA records earlier this
season. Fifth-year left side Kyle Donnan
(Pickering, Ont.) broke the all-time Ontario Colleges Athletic
Association (OCAA) career record for kills, surpassing the old
record of 719 set by Redeemer's Ryan Talsma during
the 2009-10 season. Donnan now has 753 kills in his career.
Donnan's fifth-year teammate Matt Woods
(Pickering, Ont.) set the all-time OCAA record for service aces.
Woods now has 162 to his credit, surpassing the old record of 133
set by Trent's Ian Rettie in 2009-10. Loyalist has
five regular season games remaining.
Another OCAA record will likely fall in early February as Durham
fifth-year middle David McMann (Elmvale, Ont.) has
64 stuff blocks in 2011-12, five behind the all-time regular season
record of 69 shared by three individuals. Durham has four regular
season games remaining.
The OCAA men's volleyball championship will take place at
Nipissing University in North Bay, Ont. from Feb. 23-25.
