TORONTO - The sound of a broken record is the soundtrack of
Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's volleyball this
season.
Loyalist fifth-year left side Kyle Donnan
(Pickering, Ont.) continues to rewrite the OCAA record book,
setting the all-time mark for career points in last Friday's 3-0
(25-16, 26-24, 25-19) road victory over George Brown.
With his nine points against the Huskies, Donnan now has 911
offensive points for his career, four more than previous OCAA
record holder Ryan Talsma (907) of Redeemer,
established during the 2009-10 season.
It marks the second time Donnan has tracked down Talsma to
establish a new OCAA career record. Donnan is also the all-time
kills leader with 771 to his credit.
Donnan is not the only student-athlete to make headlines last
Friday. Humber third-year right side Terrel
Bramwell (Mississauga, Ont.) tied his own OCAA record for
points in a match, recording 40 in a 3-1 (25-14, 25-23, 20-25,
25-21) win at Redeemer. Bramwell also hit the 40-point plateau in a
match last season. In another game against Redeemer earlier this
season, Bramwell established a new record for kills in a match with
36.
Another OCAA record is expected to fall at any time. Durham
fifth-year middle David McMann (Elmvale, Ont.) has
66 stuff blocks in 2011-12, three shy of the all-time regular
season record of 69 shared by three individuals. Durham has three
regular season matches remaining.
Earlier this season, Donnan's fifth-year teammate Matt
Woods (Pickering, Ont.) set the all-time OCAA record for
service aces. Woods now has 164 to his credit.
Last month, La Cite second-year power Keith Marier
(Ottawa) broke the OCAA single season record for offensive points
and kills. He now has 367 and 318, respectively.
OCAA historical stats begin in 1999-2000 season to reflect 1999
volleyball rule changes.
The OCAA men's volleyball championship will take place at Nipissing
University in North Bay, Ont. from Feb. 23-25.
