OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins and Redeemer Royals men's
and women's volleyball teams may have been adversaries on the court
on Wednesday night, but they were teammates in another venture in
the Sheridan teams up with SickKids event.
Through sponsorship and donations, the event - centred around the
two OCAA volleyball matches - raised more than $5,500 for SickKids
Children's Hospital.
"I'm so proud of the way our college community came together for
this event," athletic director Jim Flack said.
"We've had tremendous support from our students, staff, faculty,
family, friends and our OCAA colleagues."
After the mother of Bruin captain Frank Pento
passed away last fall, several members of the Sheridan community
stepped up to put on an event to honour her memory by raising money
for her favourite charity, SickKids Children's Hospital.
In addition to the numerous people who made personal donations,
several area business contributing time and resources to the event
including: Mecel Security Systems, Atlantic Collision Group, RONA,
Sheridan Student Union Inc., Monaghan's, Shoppers Drug Mart,
Sobeys, East Side Mario's, Red Bull and the Sheridan Human
Resources Inter Scholastic Committee.
