OSHAWA, Ont. – Dave McMann of the Durham
College men's volleyball team broke the OCAA record for blocks in a
season in a 3-1 victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday
night.
McMann (Elmvale, Ont.) had four blocks in a win, bringing his
season total to 70. The previous record of 69 was set in 2001 by
Kanitha Boranprasit (Seneca) and Carter
Walls (Humber). Corey Cole (St. Clair)
also matched the previous record during the 2010 season.
McMann now has 193 career blocks and moves in second place on the
OCAA all-time charts. He has two games remaining in the regular to
catch Cole for the all-time lead, as he had 205 career blocks in
five seasons with the Saints.
P.J. Cornelius of Durham led all players in
scoring with 21 points. This is his second consecutive match
scoring 20 points or more. Cornelius is closing in on 500 career
points, as he has now has 494. Steve Clarey and
Jordan McFarlane had 14 points apiece in the
win.
On the defensive end, Dan Popovich led Durham
with 12 digs.
Ian Hartop was the Lancers leading scorer with 12
points in the loss.
Set scores in the match were 25-22, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-22.
Durham and Loyalist now have matching 13-5 records and are tied
for third place in the OCAA east region. Georgian (12-5) is two
points behind in fifth place but have a game in hand on the Lords
and Lancers.
Tuesday's game was the Lords regular season home finale. They will
head to Toronto on Friday night for a match against the George
Brown Huskies (7-10). Game time is at 8 p.m.
