OCAA VOLLEYBALL ALL-STARS HEADED TO SHERIDAN I.T.

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The best of the best in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball will be on display at the J.M. Porter Athletic Centre on Saturday as Sheridan Institute of Technology hosts the 2013 OCAA Volleyball All-Star Games.

The 20th annual event brings together the elite collegiate volleyball players from across the province for a day of camaraderie and competition. Over 50 student-athletes will be representing 21 Ontario colleges and universities at this event.

Two members of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men's volleyball champions are expected to take to the court in Oakville, Ont. All-Canadian Frankie Edgecombe (Elmvale), the OCAA and CCAA championship MVP, and Nipissing Lakers teammate Adam Leblanc (Sudbury) will team up with another all-Canadian Shayne Petrusma (Bowmanville) of the Niagara Knights to form the nucleus of Team West.

Team East is led by OCAA player of the year and all-Canadian Philippe Yeldon (Ottawa) of the Algonquin Thunder. The Sheridan Bruins are represented on Team West by OCAA second-team all-stars Josh Butler (London) and Jeremy Frantin (Mississauga).

In the women's match, two-time reigning OCAA player of the year and all-Canadian Kelly Nyhof (Georgetown, Ont.) will be joined by Humber Hawks fifth-year teammates Laura Bye (Burlington) and Nina Carino (Scarborough) for one last time. All three have been members of an OCAA championship dynasty that has lasted six seasons. They will be joined on Team West by Sheridan's Melissa Cappelletti (Cambridge).

Team East is led by three-time all-Canadian Shawna Metcalf (Azilda, Ont.) of the Cambrian Golden Shield. Metcalf set a number of OCAA records this past season, including the all-time career marks in points (1,239) and kills (960). In addition, she broke her old single season record of 270 kills. She will be joined by Cambrian fifth-year teammate Kelsey Fielding (Sudbury) for one final curtain call in a Golden Shield uniform.

The women's all-star game begins at 1:15 p.m., followed by the men's all-star game at 3:15 p.m.
