HUMBER OUTLASTS MOHAWK IN OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - The Humber Hawks went head-to-head with the Mohawk Mountaineers in the battle of Ontario, winning 3-2 to advance to the CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship bronze medal game (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 29-31, 15-11).

Humber dominated the first set, extending its lead 15-8 and maintaining a comfortable distance throughout. Nine points was the largest margin and it closed the set 25-17.

Mohawk came back swinging in the second set, matching Humber step for step. Even at 13-13, Mohawk got a string of five unanswered points to lead 18-13. Humber answered back and its battled neck and neck until 23-23. Mohawk nabbed the last two points to win 25-23.

The fight continued into the third set, Humber pulling ahead 15-10. Mohawk came out after its time out, raring to go, tying it up with Humber at 21-21. Tied again at 23-23, the last two points went to Humber, claiming the set 25-23.

Desperation grew in the fourth set with Mohawk looking to stay alive. The rallies grew more intense until the score was even at 24-24. It was a fight to the death for the remaining points. Mohawk snagged the remaining points winning 31-29.

Powerhouse attacking characterized the fifth set, Humber gaining control earlyand extended its lead 11-6 and held off Mohawk to win the set 15-11 and the game 3-2.

Players of the game were Mohawk's Eric Danecke with nine kills and seven digs and Humber's was Terrel Bramwell with 27 kills, three aces 11 digs and 2 blocks.

Humber advances to play Columbia for the bronze medal tonight at 6 p.m.
