WHITE HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL AWARDS

TORONTO - Fleming College's Jacob White (Brockville) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's volleyball player of the year in a ceremony held in North York, Ont., on Thursday morning as part of the 2016 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship.

The third-year left side hitter was the OCAA east region scoring champion, leading all OCAA players averaging 5.1 points per set. White totaled 347 points on 296 kills, 44 blocks and seven service aces, leading the Fleming Knights to the east regional championship. White is now a two-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) all-Canadian, as well as an OCAA east division first-team all-star.

Jeff Scott (Georgetown) of Niagara College is also a CCAA all-Canadian. The fourth-year outside hitter averaged 3.5 points per set, contributing 202 points on 175 kills, 15 service aces and 12 blocks. Scott headlines the OCAA west division first-team all-stars.

Sebastian Lethbridge (London) was named the OCAA rookie of the year. The setter averaged 8.75 assists per set, as three of his teammates recorded 100 or more kills. Lethbridge is the second straight student-athlete from Fanshawe College to be named OCAA west rookie of the year. Lethbridge is also an west division second-team all-star, and headlines the OCAA all-rookie team.

Sidney Wilding (Oshawa) of Seneca College is the OCAA east rookie of the year. He led his team in four offensive categories, including 3.3 points per set, 254 points, 215 kills and 22 service aces. Wilding is an east division second-team all-star and a member of the OCAA all-rookie team.

Fanshawe's Patrick Johnston is the west division coach of the year and is the OCAA nominee for CCAA coach of the year. The Falcons soared to the west regional championship with a 16-2 record, a four-win turnaround from last season.

Mike Belsey of Fleming is the east division coach of the year. The Knights won the east regional championship with a 16-4 record, a four-win improvement from last season. Fleming lost two less games, and won six straight to conclude the regular season.

Mohawk College's Eric Girard (Ottawa) was honoured as the OCAA west division scoring champion. The third-year outside hitter averaged 4.1 points per set, leading Mohawk to a fourth-place standing and a post-season berth. Girard is a west division second-team all-star.

Joining White as OCAA east region first-team all-stars are Jason Grimm (Orangeville), Darien Haynes (Barrie) and Bruce Nguyen (Toronto) of Georgian College; Ben Hoftyzer (Trenton) of Loyalist College; Seneca's Jorell Miller (Scarborough); and Christian Zimmer (Ingleside) of Trent University.

In addition to Scott, OCAA west region first-team all-stars include Derek Braun (Ridgetown), Dave Gundrum (Port Elgin) and James Jackson (London) of Fanshawe; Josh Butler (London) of Sheridan College; Mohawk's Cody Charlton (Wallaceburg); and Steve Stone (St. Catharines) of Niagara.

Fleming's Scott Cockburn (Ashburn); Georgian's Liam Gray (Barrie); Alexandre Henrie (Orleans) of Collège La Cité; Shawn Hofmann (Aurora) of Canadore College; Seneca's Ishmael Kotey (Mississauga) and Wilding; Matt McGirr (Brampton) of Durham College; and Nathaniel Monteron (Toronto) of Centennial College make up the east division second-team all-stars.

Joining Lethbridge and Girard as west division second-team all-stars are Fanshawe's David AuCoin (Petawawa); Jordan Darlington (Ajax) of Humber College; Sheridan's Jeremy Fantin (Mississauga); Niagara's Nathan Snippe (St. Anns); and Eli Tolkamp (Langley, B.C.) of Redeemer University College.

In addition to Lethbridge and Wilding, OCAA all-rookie team members include Georgian's Gray, Sheridan's Patrick Andula (Mississauga), Redeemer's Jeff Ekeanyanwu (Toronto) and Durham's Andrew Watson (Uxbridge).
