FLEMING'S WHITE NAMED CCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. - Jacob White of the Fleming Knights has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Volleyball Player of the Year.

White received the award this evening at the 2016 CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship banquet, hosted by Douglas College in New Westminster, B.C.

"Jacob represents the CCAA very well," said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development. "He is a leader on the court where he is known for his competitiveness and fair play and he also excels off the court with strong academic performance."

This season, White led the Knights to a 16-4 record and first-place finish in the OCAA's East Division. He led the conference in both points per set (5.1) and kills per set (4.35). He also added 44 blocks in 68 sets.

White simply carried the Knights on his shoulders in 2015-16. He also led Fleming to a silver medal at the Durham College tournament.

"It is very difficult to reach the OCAA championships with one player," said Ray Sarkis, CCAA Men's Volleyball Convenor. "But Jacob is a player who has done just that for Fleming as he dominated with outstanding offensive numbers."

White, who has a 3.0 GPA, has created an impressive following and fan base at Fleming. He always goes out of his way to make all fans - particularly kids - feel welcome at home games.

In the off-season, White is a member of the National "C" team beach program.

CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Other nominees for the Player of the Year award were Jesse Bazergui of the VIU Mariners (PACWEST), Isak Helland-Hansen of the Medicine Hat Rattlers (ACAC), Youssef Baati of les Cheminots de Saint-Jérôme (RSEQ) and Marc Blinn of the St. Thomas Tommies (ACAA).
