MOHAWK SPLITS SATURDAY GAMES AT FANSHAWE TOURNEY

LONDON, Ont. - Two days are in the books at the Fanshawe Overkill Volleyball Kickoff Tournament.

In action Saturday, the Mohawk women split their matches. The Mountaineers downed Sheridan 3-1. The set scores were 16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-15. Middle blockers Natalie Przerwa, Britt Gingrich and Ali Underwood were the key performers as Mohawk once again started a different line-up in each set of this pre-season test.

However in its next match, Georgian swept Mohawk 25-21, 25-23, 25-20. Rookie Kinsley Child was the Mountaineers offensive star, while Jasmine Zanussi was the defensive pick.

Meanwhile, in men's play, Mohawk took three straight games from Georgian, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23. Eric Girard had 10 kills, two blocks, one ace and four digs. Max Anderson collected nine kills and one ace.

But Sheridan turned the tables on the Mountaineers in the next match. The Bruins won 25-12,27-25, 25-23. Trevor McLaughlin had seven kills, three aces and five digs. Girard had nine kills and two blocks.

Play resumes Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. when the Mohawk women will face Sheridan. The men will hit against host Fanshawe at 12:30 p.m.
