SHERIDAN 3, SENECA 2

TORONTO - The Sheridan Bruins battled the Seneca Sting for five sets, prevailing 15-13 in the fifth set to advance in the OCAA championship.

The remaining seven matches in the championship will be in tough to match the intensity and excitement the Bruins and Sting showed tonight.

The Bruins won the first set 25-22, pulling away late from a 22-22 deadlock in a tightly contested opening set.

Seneca, host of the championship, took a 2-1 advantage winning the following two sets 25-21 and 25-20.

Not one to go easily, the Bruins rebounded in the fourth set 25-19 before prevailing in the fifth set.

Jeremy Fantin led the Bruins with a match-high 24 kills along with seven digs. Josh Butler added 14 kills and six digs. Patrick Andula recorded 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Ricky Brar had 30 assists while Justin Kong contributed 22 assists. Matt Bandy topped the Bruins with 15 digs.

Toms Gaikis scored with 15 kills and added six digs. Sidney Wilding had 13 kills and David Lazarev finished with 10 kills. Setter Jorell Miller had 48 assists along with six digs and a team-high three blocks.

The win moved Sheridan into the semifinal tomorrow at 8 p.m. where it will face the Fanshawe Falcons. The Sting will play at 3 p.m. in the consolation semifinal against the Trent Excalibur.
