NATIONALLY RANKED DURHAM WINS NIAGARA INVITATIONAL

OSHAWA, Ont. - The No. 10-ranked Durham College men's volleyball team brought home the hardware on Saturday after walking through their competition at the Niagara Invitational over the weekend.

After losing 3-0 to the Georgian Grizzlies earlier this season in conference play, the Lords got some redemption by sweeping that same Grizzlies team in the tournament final.

The Lords opened with a 25-17 first set, the closest the Grizz would get as Durham held them to 15 and 12 points in the remaining two sets.

After the match Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) was named tournament MVP, while John Pham (Mississauga, Ont.) and Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) were named tournament all-stars.

Durham's lone match that went more than three sets was their first of the weekend, a 3-2 (25-12, 20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-11) victory over the No. 15 ranked Redeemer Royals.

Both matches against Algonquin and George Brown were straight set victories. The most points in a set against Durham in either match was 21 by Algonquin in the second set.

This Thursday the Lords return home to host the Seneca Sting (5-4), who they defeated 3-2 to close the opening half of the 2016-17 season. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. or immediately after the women's match.
