MOHAWK FINISHES SECOND IN HUMBER CUP MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

TORONTO - The Mohawk men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Western University Mustangs to finish as runner up in the Humber Cup Invitational in Etobicoke, Ont., on Sunday. The scores were 25-9, 25-17, 25-20 for the champion Mustangs.

It was the only loss in the event for the Mountaineers, who knocked off three university sides, York, Windsor and Brock, as well as the Quebec College Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Max Anderson led the Mountaineers in the final, with 10 kills. Chris Dashford had six digs.

Mohawk defeated the Brock Badgers in four sets (25-20, 22-25,25-19, 25-17).

Nate Delguidice had 19 kills and two stuff blocks. Eric Girard had 12 kills and one block; Matt McGirr and Robert Hudson each had nine digs; and Paul Wagner contributed five kills, four blocks and nine slow downs.

Chris Spack had another efficient day as setter.

On Friday, the Mountaineers took down York University and Saturday they downed the University of Windsor, in four sets, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23.

Delguidice had 21 kills, two service aces and one stuff block. Ben Tonin had a great match at setter.

A few hours later, the Mountaineers again had to come from behind to defeat St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21.

Delguidice and Girard each had 14 kills, one ace and one block.

"Chris Spack set an efficient match," said Mohawk coach Matt Schnarr. "We had great team defence all day."

The Mohawk Mountaineers opened their play at the Humber Cup by defeating the York University Lions 3-2.

The set scores were 31-29, 29-27, 22-25, 19-25, 15-8.

Girard had 16 kills and one stuff block for the Mountaineers. Delguidice contributed 13 kills, one service ace and one block and McGirr had 10 kills and four aces.
