DURHAM SPLITS WEEKEND AT SENECA INVITATIONAL

TORONTO - The Durham College men's volleyball team is prepared for their conference play to begin after a solid weekend at the Seneca Sting Invitational.

On Friday the Lords opened with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16) win against the Sheridan Bruins.

Later that day they lost 3-1 to the Mohawk Mountaineers, the same team they opened their preseason against at home on Sept. 28. They opened with a 25-23 first set win, but fell in consecutive sets 19-25, 19-25 and 17-25.

Saturday morning against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers the Lords squeaked out a 3-2 win.

After taking the opening sets 25-19 and 25-21, they lost the next two sets 21-25 and 15-25 before taking the fifth and deciding set 15-13.

Their final match of the preseason and tournament was a 3-2 loss to the Niagara Knights. Opposite of the match against CMU, the Lords were behind 2-0 to start the match after falling 13-25 and 21-25. They won the third 25-23 and fourth 25-19 before losing the fifth 14-16 to be eliminated from the invitational.

The Lords will travel to North Bay next Sunday to face the Canadore Panthers. First serve in their match is 3 p.m.
