SENECA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL READY FOR ALBERTA

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is pleased to announce Seneca College will represent Ontario at the 2007 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s National Championship. The tournament takes place in Edmonton, Alberta at Grant MacEwan College from March 15-17. The top eight teams in the country will all meet on the MacEwan floor and showcase their basketball talents enroute to the crowing of a National Champion.

Seneca College is making its second consecutive trip to the tournament and heads in with an undefeated 19-0 record on the line. The Sting will open the tournament against the fourth ranked Okanagan Lakers of Kelowna, B.C. and will look to 2007 All-Canadian nominee and 2006 CCAA National Championship 2nd Team All-Tournament Team member, Natasha Thombs, to continue to lead their balanced offence and improve on their fifth place ranking from a year ago. Last year Thombs scored 35 points versus the Mount Royal Cougars in the Bronze Semi-Final game.

OCAA Coach of the Year, Marcy Skribe, has coached her team to their second consecutive Provincial title and to an undefeated 2006-07 season. For her leadership and coaching abilities Skribe has been nominated as Ontario’s representative as CCAA Coach of the Year. This is the second consecutive time she has been nominated for the award.

Algoma University-College’s Danielle D’Ettorre will also be honoured at the CCAA All-Canadian Awards Banquet for her season. D’Ettorre led the Province in scoring averaging 26 PPG and scoring 312 total points all while helping earn her team their first Women’s Basketball Provincial Medal (silver) in school history. She has also been nominated as the CCAA Player of the Year which will be announced at the CCAA All-Canadian Awards Banquet on Wednesday, March 14th.

The last time an OCAA team brought home a National Women’s Basketball medal came in 1990 when Mohawk College earned Bronze.
