In only her first year with Algoma University College, Danielle
D’Ettorre is the winner of the 2007 CCAA Women’s
Basketball Player of the Year award.
Ending the regular season with a total of 312 points and an average
of 26 PPG, Danielle set a new scoring record in Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) regular season play for women’s
basketball; the previous record of 25 PPG in regular season play
was set by Iona Dawes of Humber College in 1989.
Danielle also played exceptionally well on her home court. Her
unparallel scoring ability is complemented by her exceptional
defensive and rebounding skills. In six home games, she averaged 10
RPG, 3 APG, 4.7 SPG, had a 74% free-throw percentage and a 48%
shooting percentage in 36 minutes of action per game.
Danielle is very motivated and dedicated in her athletic pursuits.
Her determination and will to succeed is matched by her leadership
and poise, all of which have sparked the Thunderbirds turnaround
this season. Danielle helped the Thunderbirds reach a record of
9– 4, ranking them first in the OCAA West Region, a climb of
four places from last year’s last place finish. The Algoma
University College Thunderbirds were also ranked third in the OCAA
for the better part of the season – until now, Algoma was
previously never ranked in the OCAA.
Off the court, Danielle challenges herself with a full-time study
load, while also playing varsity basketball, volunteering in the
community and working a part-time job. She currently volunteers her
time to assist with Algoma University College Youth Basketball
Skills Camps and City Tournaments and is also on the Organizing
Committee for the upcoming Ontario Basketball Association
Provincial Championships.
