EAST RULES IN OCAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Fresh off a national silver medal, Algonquin Thunder second year guard Dayna Dover (Ottawa) scored 13 first-half points en route to game most valuable player honours as the East defeated the West 70-54 at the OCAA women’s basketball all-star game hosted by Fleming College last Saturday.

Dover ended the game with a game-high 17 points. Teammate and OCAA women’s player of the year Summer Bly (Barrie, Ont.) of the Georgian Grizzlies was the only other player to hit double figures in scoring with a dozen points.

First-year guard Arica Price (Fort McMurray, Alta.) of the St. Clair Saints was named West MVP scoring eight points, all in the second half. Third-year point guard Maria Suriani (Hamilton, Ont.) led the West with nine points, all on three-pointers.

Algonquin fifth-year guard Tina Ethier (Ottawa) won the women’s three-point shootout competition, eclipsing fourth-year player Sarah Stevens (Windsor, Ont.) of St. Clair. Melissa Vilar (Memphis, Tenn.) of George Brown placed third.
