St. Lawrence College Vikings Women’s Basketball Head
Coach, Andrea Blackwell, has been named one of five mentor coaches
for the upcoming Ontario Basketball’s Coach School
program.
According to Ontario Basketball, Coach School is designed to
develop female basketball coaches by “immersing them in an
intimate and highly interactive learning environment that will
allow them to grow and develop as leaders in the sport.”
The program is lead by Shawnee Harle, the head coach of the
University of Calgary Dinos Women’s Basketball
team. Joining her are five mentor coaches: Michele Belanger
(University of Toronto head coach), Christine Stapleton (former
NEDA head coach), Sue Lindley (former head coach Wilfrid Laurier
and McMaster University), Georgia Risnita (University of Windsor
head coach), and Andrea Blackwell (St. Lawrence College head
coach). The Coach School will take place Aug. 1 to 4 at Humber
College in Toronto.
Coach Blackwell, a 17-year veteran of Canada’s national
women’s basketball team, has just completed her 3rd season at
the helm of the St. Lawrence College Vikings. During her tenure the
Vikings squad has amassed a record of 27-17. For the 2008-2009
season, Blackwell was named OCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of
the Year.
