According to Ontario Basketball, Coach School is designed to develop female basketball coaches by “immersing them in an intimate and highly interactive learning environment that will allow them to grow and develop as leaders in the sport.”

The program is lead by Shawnee Harle, the head coach of the University of Calgary Dinos Women’s Basketball team. Joining her are five mentor coaches: Michele Belanger (University of Toronto head coach), Christine Stapleton (former NEDA head coach), Sue Lindley (former head coach Wilfrid Laurier and McMaster University), Georgia Risnita (University of Windsor head coach), and Andrea Blackwell (St. Lawrence College head coach). The Coach School will take place Aug. 1 to 4 at Humber College in Toronto.

Coach Blackwell, a 17-year veteran of Canada’s national women’s basketball team, has just completed her 3rd season at the helm of the St. Lawrence College Vikings. During her tenure the Vikings squad has amassed a record of 27-17. For the 2008-2009 season, Blackwell was named OCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
