TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 12.
MALE: Boyd Vassel, Fanshawe
Fanshawe second-year guard Boyd Vassel (Kitchener,
Ont.) scored a combined 53 points in a pair of games. Vassel scored
a game-high 24 points in a 72-50 win at Redeemer on Feb. 8. He also
contributed five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Vassel then
scored a game-high 29 points in a 73-62 win over Lambton on Feb.
10. He also added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to
his totals. Vassel is the top offensive producer on the Falcons
averaging 17.8 points per game.
FEMALE: Shaniqua Wilson, George Brown
George Brown first-year guard Shaniqua Wilson
(Toronto) put together her best two offensive performances of her
young OCAA career. Wilson scored 13 points while adding eight
rebounds and four steals in a 71-57 win over Durham on Feb. 8.
Wilson then scored a game-high 21 points in a 67-40 win at Georgian
on Feb. 10. She also contributed four rebounds, four steals and two
assists. Wilson has averaged 10.8 points in six games with the
Huskies.
