Seneca Sting varsity student-athlete Samantha
Evans, a fourth-year point guard for the 8-0, No. 1-ranked
Senecan women's basketball squad, will be featured on Sportsnet
Radio 590 THE FAN on Sunday, Dec. 18 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Evans, a native of Scarborough, Ont. and a student in the
Recreation and Leisure Services program at Seneca, is a former
Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) silver and bronze
medalist, rookie of the year and led the OCAA in steals in
2007. Evans has also competed for Seneca at the Canadian
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's basketball national
championship. In addition to being an outstanding athlete and
student, Samantha finds time to serve as the assistant coach for
the Scarborough Blues girls basketball team, as well as an
instructor for a steelpan drumming group that performs at local
hospitals.
In their last game, the Sting women's team defeated the Georgian
Grizzlies by a score of 74-37, improving their record to a league
best 8-0 mark for the season. At the holiday break, the Sting have
plenty of reason to feel festive heading into the New Year. Seneca
is the best defensive team in the OCAA having given up only 317
points in their eight games this season. The Sting (619
points-for) is second in scoring behind the Sheridan Bruins (7-2
record, 651 points-for).
The Sting women's basketball squad can next be seen in action
during their upcoming collegiate tournament in the New Year. The
2012 Seneca Sting Women's Basketball Classic takes place on January
6 and 7 at Newnham Campus Gymnasium (Building G, Sports Centre,
Lower Level). Seneca is also proud to serve as host of the
2012 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship, March 1-3, 2012.
