ALGONQUIN MOVES ONE STEP CLOSER TO NATIONAL BRONZE MEDAL

TRURO, N.S. - The Algonquin Thunder defeated the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in dramatic fashion by a score of 71-69 at the 2013 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship on Friday.

The game came down to the final five seconds of overtime when Holly Ryerse iced it with two free throws.

Ryerse, the Thunder Player of the Game, had a game-high 24 points, while Sandre Bascoe contributed 20 of her own to lead Algonquin to victory.

Chelsea MacKay had an outstanding game with 21 points and seven assists, including a huge shot that gave the Mystics the lead in the final seconds of regulation.

The nail biter put some of the top female basketball talent in Canada on display. While both teams were already relegated to the consolation round, they did not let that deter their play whatsoever.

With the victory, Algonquin keeps their medal hopes alive. They will face the loser of Olds-Montmorency. The winner of that game will advance to the bronze medal and face the loser of Dawson-STU.

MSVU will play the loser of VIU/Fanshawe in a game that decides seventh and eighth place.
