ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CLAIM OCAA BRONZE MEDAL

HAMILTON, Ont. - The St. Clair women's basketball team claimed the bronze medal in a hard fought 59-57 victory over St. Lawrence College (Kingston, Ont.) at the OCAA championship hosted by Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday night. This is the first medal for the Saints women's basketball program since the 2009-10 season when they won silver.

In a see-saw game that had 12 lead changes, St. Clair was able to prevail due to some timely shooting along with a slight advantage in rebounding. The Saints were able to take a 16-13 lead after the first quarter but St. Lawrence responded quickly with a large run in the second quarter to lead 35-24 at half time.

St. Clair returned serve in the third quarter outscoring St. Lawrence 21-9 which set up a tremendous fourth quarter. The teams traded the advantage several times until a triple from Meighen Boyd (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne) hit a triple to draw the Saints within a point at 52-51 with a under four minutes to play.

Kelly Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) hit a pair of buckets on either end of a St. Lawrence basket setting up Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) who hit the game's biggest shot from beyond the arc to put St. Clair ahead for good at 58-56. The teams traded fouls and a both split from the free throw line before St. Clair was able to secure the last loose ball and the victory.

Kendyl Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) was named player of the game supplying the hustle plays for St. Clair while scoring six points and added eight rebounds and six assists playing nearly the entire game. Kennedy had the monster game for the Saints scoring 15 points to go with 14 rebounds and Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) also reached double figures with 13 points.

St. Lawrence's Nicolle Gaudet had a game-high 21 points in the loss but unfortunately missed the game tying free throw in the late stages.
