FANSHAWE 56, CAMBRIAN 44

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's basketball hosted the Cambrian Golden Shield on Saturday afternoon for their first regular season game of the year. Fanshawe came out with the win 56-44.

Both teams started off slow but Fanshawe took an 8-7 lead heading into the second quarter.  Cambrian's Kayla Odorizzi started the quarter with five straight points, giving the Golden Shield a 12-8 lead.

After being down by as many as eight, Fanshawe battled back with an 18-0 run to finish out the first half. During that run, Fanshawe's Ali Vlasman scored 12 points, including going 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Fanshawe took control early in the third quarter, stretching the lead to as many as 14. Cambrian's Chantal McMahon hit back-to-back three-pointers at the end of the quarter to close Fanshawe's lead to six with one quarter to play. Fanshawe played strong defence in the fourth, holding Cambrian to only 10 points.

Leading the way for Fanshawe was Ali Vlasman who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Cambrian's Trish Taylor led the Golden Shield with 12 points.

The Falcons host the Cambrian Golden Shield again tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
