ST. LAWRENCE (K) 78, GEORGIAN 43

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team opened their 2013-14 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) regular season Saturday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie hosting the St. Lawrence Vikings from Kingston.

The Vikings, who finished fourth in the province last year, gave the Grizzlies a tough test and defeated Georgian 78-43 in both team's first game of the season.

The Grizzlies couldn't find an answer for last year's OCAA player of the year Lacey Knox. The Kingston native had an incredible 40 points for the Vikings to give St. Lawrence their first victory of the season.

Summer Bly who returned to the Grizzlies after not playing the last two seasons for Georgian had a solid return. The Barrie native led the team with 16 points and showed the form that made her a CCAA all-Canadian in the 2010-11 season.

First-year Collingwood native Erial Barnard was also impressive in her debut for Georgian scoring 13 points, six rebounds and three assists on the afternoon.

The Grizzlies will be back in action tomorrow at noon when they host the Fleming Knights at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
