ST. CLAIR 71, REDEEMER 59

WINDSOR, Ont. -The St. Clair women's basketball team improved their record to 3-1 on the season with a 71-59 victory over Redeemer University College this afternoon at the campus gym.

The Lady Saints started slow falling behind early and trailed Redeemer 19-13 after the first quarter.

A strong second quarter allowed St. Clair to take a 34-31 lead at the break with Kendyl Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) scoring 10 points in the first half. However, Redeemer came back with some strong outside shooting in the third quarter and the teams entered the final frame all tied at 48-48.

St. Clair was able to assert themselves on the glass all night and held a 20-6 advantage on the offensive boards. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter which allowed the Saints to pull ahead after an early 11-2 run.

Rizea finished with 17 points adding six rebounds and six assists. Jessica Gordon (London, Ont./Mother Teresa) had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Fourth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan) also reached double figures with 10 points adding an impressive seven assists. Redeemer's Aycha Hamaoui had a game-high 21 points in a losing cause.

The St. Clair women's basketball team will host Lambton College (Sarnia) Friday at the campus gym with tip time at 6 p.m.
