DURHAM 76, CENTENNIAL 51

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team defeated the Centennial Colts 76-51 Friday night at the CRWC.

The win put an end to Centennial's perfect record, as they entered the game with three straight wins to start the season.

Durham used a strong defence and pinpoint offence to quickly jump out to a 22-17 lead in the first quarter. The Lords would then use the remaining three quarters to successfully increase the margin of victory to 25 points, stringing together a number of strong offensive possessions off of ball screens and baseline cuts to set-up easy shots. Durham would finish the game making 46 percent of their field goal attempts while holding Centennial to only 26 percent.

The Lords starting five played a major role in this explosion of offensive efficiency and would account for 55 of Durham's 76 total points. Kate Mowat (Whitby, Ont.) led the Lords in scoring collecting 22 points while going a spectacular 10-of-11 from the field.

Lords veteran Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) also put in a strong all-around performance accumulating a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out five assists. Hare added to her defensive totals as well collecting three steals and two crowd pleasing blocks.

The starting five was rounded out by Kauri Lafontaine (Whitby, Ont.) who earned eight points, four rebounds and nine assists; Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) who finished with seven points, four rebounds and four assists; and Alicia Del Fuoco (Whitby, Ont.) who collected four points, five rebounds and two assists.

Durham is 3-2 in conference play and sit a half-game behind the Colts (3-1) for third place in the OCAA East region standings. The Lords will next welcome Fleming to the CRWC on Friday, Nov. 22 as they look to extend their winning steak to three games. Durham will be collecting donations for the campus holiday food drive at next week's home game.
