ST. LAWRENCE (K) 74, LOYALIST 26

KINGSTON, Ont. - The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Vikings women's basketball team earned their fourth straight victory, and remain undefeated to start the 2013-14 Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) season, after handing the Loyalist College Lancers their fourth straight loss by a score of 74-26.

SLC started the game on a 16-point run streak, with the starting five of Lacey Knox, Haley Gourdier, Blythe Glutelus, Abby Heron and Nicole Gaudet setting a quick pace with strong defensive pressure.

In the second quarter, however, the Lancers shut down the Vikings scoring, only allowing SLC to score 10 points in the quarter.

"I wasn't impressed with our effort in the second," said SLC head coach Remy Simpson.

"The last two or three minutes, Loyalist made a pretty good run against us. We're lucky that it didn't cost us, because if it were to happen in a game against Algonquin or Centennial, we'd be in trouble."

The Vikings got back to their game plan for the second half, by applying overwhelming pressure to the Loyalist players, while scoring off the 46 Loyalist turnovers. When combined with the strong play from the first quarter, and up-tempo game, the pace was too much for the Lancers, as SLC would outscore Loyalist 41-13 in the half.

In her second year with SLC, Jackie Rodgerson finished as the top scorer for SLC with 15 points, going 4-of-7, and shooting 50 percent from the three-point line. Both Knox and Gaudet finished with 12 points, with Gaudet bringing down 14 rebounds.

After winning their last two games by a combined score of 159-42, the Vikings will face their first big test of the season, when they host the 2012-13 OCAA champion Algonquin College Thunder, who are off to a 4-0 start to the 2013-14 season.
