OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team dominated from start to finish against the Fleming Knights on Friday night as they picked up a 67-19 victory.
The Lords shutout the Knights in two separate quarters, as Fleming went scoreless in the first and final 10 minutes of the game. Stephanie Legebokoff (Windsor, Ont.) led the Lords defence with six steals, as the Lords would go on to force 46 turnovers which included amassing 30 steals.
The Lords scoring was spread out throughout the line-up as eight
players recorded points. Kelsey Hare (Whitby,
Ont.) led the team with 20, going 9-of-22 from the field while
Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) scored 14 points
including two 3-pointers.
Hare reached a milestone on Friday night as she surpassed 1,000
career points in OCAA women's basketball. Hare has recorded 1,002
points in five seasons, as she sits in fourth place in the OCAA
all-time scoring charts. Former teammate Erin
Emery is the all-time Durham College leading scorer with
1,067 career points.
Despite not scoring any points, Alicia Del Fuoco
(Whitby, Ont.) played a big role in the win as she hauled in a
team-high eight rebounds.
Julia Cameron was the Knights leading scorer with
six points in the loss.
Durham has won three straight games and sits in third place in the
OCAA East region with a 4-2 record. Fleming drops to 0-6 to start
the season.
