CENTENNIAL 71, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 62

KINGSTON, Ont. - Having won their last two consecutive games, the St. Lawrence College (SLC) women's basketball team was looking to push their winning streak to three games, when they faced the 4-2 Centennial College Colts on Saturday, Nov. 30.

But a fourth quarter collapse by the Vikings would cost them the game, as Centennial came back after being down by seven, to pull off the upset 71-62 win.

For the majority of the first half the Vikings were behind on the scoreboard, as SLC shot just 32 percent for the half. It wasn't until late in the second quarter when the Vikings were able to force key turnovers and that allowed SLC to re-take the lead. Lacey Knox, Sammy Gourdier and Nicole Gaudet would each hit a late three pointers to help the Vikings to a 31-27 lead at halftime.

Jackie Rodgerson was put into the game to start the second half, and quickly found her scoring touch, hitting three of four three-pointers. But the Colts kept pace with the Vikings by getting the ball down low and utilizing the backboard.

Centennial would begin the fourth quarter on a 14-point run, retaking the lead by a seven points. Finally at 4:23, Gourdier would hit her second three pointer of the game, getting the Vikings on the board for the first time in the quarter. But SLC was unable to rally around the shot, and were held to just eight points in the final 10 minutes of play.

"Credit to Centennial as they just wanted more than us," said SLC head coach Remy Simpson. "We called a few timeouts trying to turn the game around, but nothing seemed to shake our fourth quarter slump."

The Vikings are now off for the holiday break. The team will travel to Quebec on Jan. 3 for a two- day tournament. Their first regular season game takes place at home on Friday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m., when the Vikings host the Seneca College Sting.
