DURHAM 76, GEORGE BROWN 51

TORONTO - The Durham College women's basketball team will head into the holiday break on a five-game winning streak after they picked up a 76-51 victory over the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday night.

Durham moves into a tie for second place in the OCAA East region with the St. Lawrence Vikings as the two teams have matching 6-2 records. Both teams trail the undefeated and No. 1-ranked Algonquin Thunder (8-0) by two games.

The Lords dominated the first half of Wednesday's game as they shot out to a 29-14 lead after twenty minutes. George Brown would manage to cut the Lords lead to 11 points, but Durham would outscore the Huskies 30-16 in the fourth quarter to seal the lopsided victory.

Durham's starting line-up scored all but eight points in the game. Kate Mowat (Whitby, Ont.) led the Lords offensive attack as she scored 19 points. Mowat was clutch shooting from a distance as she hit several key three-pointers.

Rounding out the starters were Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) and Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) who had 16 and 12 points respectively while Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) and Alicia Del Fuoco (Whitby, Ont.) combined for 21.

With 16 points in the game, Hare brings her career point total to 1,040. The fifth-year senior is 27 points behind former teammate Erin Emery for the Durham College all-time career scoring title. Hare is averaging 16 points per game this season which is fourth in East region scoring.

The Lords and Huskies will have a rematch on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in Oshawa. Game-time at the CRWC is 6 p.m.
