FANSHAWE 68, LAMBTON 30

LONDON, Ont. - On Wednesday night, the Fanshawe women's basketball team (8-2) defeated the Lambton Lions (2-8) by a final score of 68-30.

The Falcons defence was the key to start the game, not allowing a field goal until four minutes into the first quarter. Fanshawe's Victoria Racine hit back-to-back jumpers to extend the Falcons lead to double digits before Lambton's Riley Williams scored four straight to end the quarter, cutting the Fanshawe lead to six, 19-13.

Lambton came out aggressive in the second, taking the ball to rim every opportunity they had. The Lions tied the game at 21 before Fanshawe's Anique Daley dropped a running floater and the Falcons retook the lead. Fanshawe didn't let up and an 11-3 run to finish the quarter had the Falcons up 32-24 at the half.

Fanshawe stepped up their defence in the third, allowing only four points all quarter. Fanshawe won the quarter 17-4 and took a commanding 49-28 lead in the final quarter of play. The strong play continued in the fourth quarter for the Falcons, holding the Lions to a season-low 30 points in the game and only six in the entire second half. The Falcons added to their OCAA league leading steals total, finishing with 20 steals as a team in the game.

The Falcons leading scorer was Rachel Jaworowicz who filled the stat sheet with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and six steals. Williams scored 15 for the Lions.

Fanshawe's next game takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Windsor, Ont., versus the CCAA No. 15-ranked St. Clair Saints (7-2). Last time these teams met, the Falcons came away with the upset victory over the Saints 64-60.
