HUMBER 69, ST. CLAIR 56

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair women's basketball team dropped their opening game of the second half of the season to Humber by a score of 69-56 at the campus gym Sunday afternoon.

The Saints held the advantage early in the game leading 18-13 after the first quarter and enjoyed a small 29-26 at the half-time break.

However, things turned around in the third quarter where Humber was able to exert a physical presence around the basket into close range buckets and outscored the Saints 22-14 in the frame.

St. Clair cut the lead to just as basket at 56-54 mid-way through the fourth quarter but Humber put the game out of reach down the stretch with a 13-2 run. A poor shooting night overall for the Saints (32 per cent from the field) contributed to the loss as they shot just 2-of-23 from beyond the three-point arc.

Kendyl Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) led the Saints offensively with 17 points adding five rebounds and four assists. Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) also reached double figures for St. Clair with 11 points but suffered through a difficult shooting night. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) had 11 rebounds and six assists but could only muster seven points for the Saints who also got some much needed energy off the bench from Tori Schutz (Lasalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) who scored six points in just nine minutes of play.

Humber's Chioma Oriuwa had a game-high 21 points adding 10 rebounds for the double-double leading her team to the victory.

The St. Clair women's basketball team hosts Fanshawe College (London, Ont.) on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in OCAA West Region regular season play starting at 6 p.m.
