GEORGIAN 67, FLEMING 24

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams put together a pair of impressive wins Saturday afternoon when they visited the Fleming Knights in Peterborough.

Looking for a good start the Grizzlies men's team came out firing. First-year forward Inderbir Gill (Brampton) scored 15 of his team-high 18 points in the first quarter alone as Georgian got out to a 30-10 lead after the games opening 10 minutes.

The Grizzlies never looked back from that start, controlling play and defeating the Knights 76-48 while holding the lead from start to finish.

The win was an important one for Georgian, keeping them in the top half of the East Division standings with a 7-5 record.

The women's game had a similar tone as the Grizzlies started strong getting out to a 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter and a 29-point lead at halftime with a 42-13 score.

The Grizzlies continued the strong play in the second half leading to a 67-24 final.

Former all-Canadian Summer Bly (Barrie) had a team-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in just over 25 minutes of play for Georgian.

Both the men's and women's teams will play their first home games of the second half of the OCAA season this coming Friday, Jan. 17 when they host the Seneca Sting at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Georgian College Athletic Centre.
