ST. CLAIR 59, FANSHAWE 42

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair women's basketball team avenged an earlier season loss to Fanshawe College on their home court with a 59-42 victory Wednesday night in front a partisan home crowd. The St. Clair win forces a three-way tie for second place in the OCAA's West Region between St. Clair, Fanshawe and Niagara at 8-3.

The Saints quickly built a 15-4 lead in the first quarter before Fanshawe closed the gap to just 15-11 at the end of the frame. Fanshawe outscored St. Clair in the second quarter but still trailed 29-26 at halftime. St. Clair was able to push the lead to 12 points in the third quarter as Fanshawe struggled against some tough defence that saw six blocked shots and 19 steals in the game. The Saints pulled away down the stretch in the fourth quarter and enjoyed a 42-22 advantage in rebounding.

St. Clair fifth-year forward Kendyl Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) scored a game-high 20 points adding 12 rebounds for the double-double. Fourth-year shooting guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) reached double figures with 14 points to go with four assists. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) recorded another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds adding four steals.

Fanshawe's Rachel Jaworowicz had 12 points in a losing effort.

The St. Clair women's basketball team continues their OCAA West Region regular season schedule when they travel to Redeemer University College (Ancaster) on Saturday with tip time at 2 p.m.

WINDSOR, Ont. - Last Wednesday, the Fanshawe Falcons women's basketball team was defeated by the No. 15 CCAA nationally-ranked St. Clair Saints (9-3) by a final score of 59-42. The Falcons now sit in third place in the OCAA West Division standings.

The Falcons started slow until a 7-0 run to end the first quarter brought them within four. Fanshawe outscored the Saints in the second and trailed by only three, 29-26 at the break.

St. Clair pulled away in the second half in large part to the 42-22 rebound advantage in the game. The Saints won by a final score of 59-42. Fanshawe's Rachel Jaworowicz had 12 points for the Falcons.

Fanshawe hosts the West Division leading Humber Hawks (10-2) next Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. The Hawks are currently ranked No. 12 in the CCAA national rankings.
