HAMILTON, Ont. - In what head coach Brian Jonker termed "a complete effort," the Mohawk men's basketball team whipped the Lambton Lions of Sarnia 113-57 at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre Saturday afternoon (Jan. 18).

The Mountaineers, who led 65-20 at the half, upped their record to 9-3, while the Lions dropped to 5-8.

Matt Fennell led the Mohawk offence with 34 points and five rebounds. Andrew Cicuttini had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Patrick Iavarone scored 14 points and added seven assists and Filip Pejic had 11 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, the beat goes on for the Mohawk women cagers, who won their fourth in a row, 92-60 over the Lions.

A trio of rookie guards led the way as Jen Abella scored 19 points, while Stef Hrymak had 14 and Ally DeLorenzi added 12.

Mohawk improved to 8-4, while Lambton slipped to 2-11.

"It was a really good game for us offensively," said Mountaineers head coach Kevin Duffy. "We shot the ball well and moved it around quickly to find the open shooter. Defensively was another story. We had a few too many breakdowns and at times didn't compete on the boards or with our on the ball defence. To their credit they have some excellent shooters on their team and we gave them too much time and they hit their open looks."

Duffy felt overall it was a great week for the team, as it continues to try and improve for the upcoming playoff run.
