DURHAM 73, SENECA 56

NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team outscored Seneca by 14 points in the second half as they left North York with a 73-56 victory over the Sting.

The Lords swept the season series over Seneca and have won 10 of their last 11 conference games. The win also sets up a showdown against St. Lawrence College on Friday, Feb. 14 at the CRWC. Both teams have only three losses this season and are in a battle for second place in the OCAA East region.

Leading by only three points over Seneca at the half, Durham's defence took over the game as they held the Sting to just six points in the third quarter to take a 56-43 lead.

With Seneca attempting to creep back into the game, Durham relied on quick ball movement to beat the Sting's press. This was highlighted by a fast-break with five minutes left that saw all five Durham players touch the ball capped off with a Kate Mowat (Whitby, Ont.) lay-up off a feed from Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.).

Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) led the Lords' offensive attack with 19 points. She also had a pair of highlight reel passes under the basket to Hellen Dumbuya (Whitby, Ont.) and Alicia Del Fuoco (Whitby, Ont.) in the fourth quarter. LaFontaine is in the top 10 of OCAA points per game, rebounds and assists.

Other top scorers for Durham included Mowat with 16 and Dumbuya with 12.

The Lords game against St. Lawrence (Fri. Feb. 14) will be their final home game of the regular season. The athletic department will honour the graduating seniors with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.
